Long Beach Prepares for Heat Wave, Opens Cooling Centers

Southern California's Heat Wave Continues

A heat wave is expected to hit Southern California this week, with temperatures reaching up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit in some areas. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the region, urging residents to take precautions to stay cool and avoid heat-related illnesses.

Long Beach Opens Cooling Centers

In response to the heat wave, the City of Long Beach has opened cooling centers at several locations throughout the city. These centers provide a place for residents to cool off and escape the heat. The cooling centers will be open from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM each day during the heat wave.

The locations of the cooling centers are as follows:

  • Long Beach Public Library, 101 Pacific Avenue
  • Long Beach Senior Center, 1150 East Willow Street
  • Long Beach Veterans Memorial Stadium, 5000 E. Conant Street

Tips for Staying Cool During a Heat Wave

In addition to visiting a cooling center, there are several other things you can do to stay cool during a heat wave:

  • Drink plenty of fluids, even if you don't feel thirsty.
  • Wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.
  • Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day.
  • Take cool showers or baths.
  • Use fans or air conditioning to cool your home.

If you or someone you know experiences symptoms of heat-related illness, such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, or heat stroke, seek medical attention immediately.
