Aston Villa Football Team Colours

The Evolution of the Aston Villa Logo Colours

A Journey Through Time

From Blue to Claret and Back Again

The Aston Villa logo has undergone a number of transformations throughout the years, reflecting the team's changing identity and aspirations. Originally, Villa's colours were blue and white hoops, inspired by the Eton College football team. However, in 1890, the club switched to claret and blue, which has remained its primary colour scheme ever since. The change is said to have been inspired by the Bordeaux wine region in France, where the club's founders had connections.

In the 1920s, Aston Villa experimented with a white kit with claret and blue trim, before returning to the traditional claret and blue hoops in the 1930s. In 1960, the club adopted a badge featuring a lion rampant on a blue background, which was replaced by a more modern design in 1972. The current badge, introduced in 2007, incorporates elements of both the original and 1972 designs, with a lion rampant on a claret and blue background.
