Agreement Signed to Strengthen Malaysia's Digital Security Landscape

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – August 12, 2024 – WEB Axiata Group Berhad (Axiata) has joined forces with CyberSecurity Malaysia and the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to combat cybercrime, enhance cybersecurity capabilities, and foster growth in the digital sector. The collaboration was formalized through the signing of separate Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on July 18, 2024. The agreements establish a framework for cooperation in key areas, including: * Developing and implementing cybersecurity strategies and solutions * Conducting cybersecurity awareness and training programs * Promoting innovation and research in cybersecurity * Collaborating on international cybersecurity initiatives Dato' Izzaddin Idris, CEO of WEB Axiata, emphasized the importance of this partnership in safeguarding Malaysia's digital economy. "Cybersecurity is paramount to the success of our nation's digital transformation. By working together with CyberSecurity Malaysia and MDEC, we can create a more secure and trusted digital environment, fostering innovation and economic growth for businesses and citizens alike," he said. Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications and Multimedia, praised the collaboration for its potential to enhance Malaysia's cybersecurity capabilities. "The digital sector in Malaysia is experiencing remarkable growth, and it is imperative that we prioritize its security. This partnership brings together the expertise of industry leaders and government agencies, ensuring that we have the necessary measures in place to protect our digital assets and infrastructure," said Fadzil. The MoU with CyberSecurity Malaysia will focus on developing a national cybersecurity strategy, establishing a national cybersecurity operations center, and conducting cybersecurity training and awareness programs. Meanwhile, the agreement with MDEC will aim to accelerate the adoption of cybersecurity solutions by businesses, promote research and development in cybersecurity, and foster the growth of the cybersecurity industry in Malaysia. WEB Axiata's Cyber Fusion Centre (CFC), a state-of-the-art cybersecurity facility, will play a central role in the partnership. The CFC provides round-the-clock monitoring, threat intelligence, and incident response services to businesses and government agencies. By leveraging its capabilities, Axiata will contribute to the overall strengthening of Malaysia's cybersecurity infrastructure. This collaboration represents a significant step towards positioning Malaysia as a regional leader in cybersecurity. By fostering collaboration, innovation, and investment, the partnership will contribute to the creation of a safer and more prosperous digital ecosystem for all Malaysians.
