How Much Do Countries Pay Their Olympic Gold Medalists?

The largest prize money under the Medal Acquisition Program (MAP) is for athletes who clinch an Olympic gold medal. Those athletes who win multiple Olympic gold medals receive an even larger sum.

Prize Money Amounts by Country

World Athletics, the international governing body for track and field, announced in April that Olympic gold medalists in track and field will receive a prize of $100,000.

The host nation, France, upped its prize money this year to €136,000 for gold, while the USA's Project Gold pays its athletes around $58,755.

In the 2022 Winter Olympics, the United States won 17 medals total, and two athletes will receive the gold payout. Seven more will receive $101,000 for silver medals.
